Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to say our goodbyes to Ricky Mort-in. Ricky was our friend, an icon of the gridiron and a hero to all of Fun League.
Although he had a surprisingly long blood bowl career for a ghoul, he was still at the top of his game, so it is all the more cruel that he was struck down and taken from us when he had so much left to give. None of the adoring fans who witnessed his week one performance realised the two TDs he ran in through the pouring rain would be the last of his illustrious career. Quite how many he scored through the years is as big mystery as why Cyanide didn't think to let you view the stats of dead players. But his 109 SPP was believed to be the league's highest (through week 1 of this season), a position now filled by Wollack Fangless.
For such an accomplished ball carrier, it was fitting that he went out the same way as his own idol, Tucker of the North Belfast Hardmen. A sideline wizard managing to stop him in his tracks like no player had ever managed.
His loss will be deeply felt by all his teammates. However, following the rule of two, his long term apprentice Noel Ghoulagher is expected to take over main ball handling duties and aid in the search for a new understudy to train up (Ricky is rumoured to have had a brother, Chris, though no one has ever seen him play). Whether Noel is able to fill Ricky's big boots or ever capture the hearts of fans and coaches alike in the manner Ricky did remains to be seen.
Though this terrible tragedy has affected us all deeply, we must try to remember the good times we had while he was with us and know that Ricky will live on forever in our memories.
