In what on paper looked like a comfortable matchup for the Short Cut against Shiny's Green frogs, the Cut did indeed win 2 to 1, but it was not as routinely as they would have liked.
The Cut chose to receive first half and had a good grind to score turn 8. Not that it was uneventful, as they managed to fail no less than four 2d blocks first half. Following the first three failed blocks, Shiny had the courtesy to promptly fail his dodges to even things out, so he didn't get to take advantage. After the last Shiny got the hobbo ball carrier down, so turn 8 the Short had to pick up and hand off a ball between hobbos who then sprinted two to score with no trained team tactics to take advantage of, something they miraculously did. The Short only got 2 cas, however, and with to drives to wake up after being ko'ed, most of the dark elves did.
With the elves receiving in the second half, the dwarves managed to put some pressure on the elves, and also got the ball carrier down. Thanks to some serious elfball, Snhiny's elves still managed to pick the ball up in a tz and long bomb the ball over the dwarves to a free rookie that received and got his TD.
With some four or five turns to score, the Short received and tried to make their way up the field. The elves stood firm, however, being able to field 10 elves again. The Short managed to cut through their defences on the side, though, but ultimately the frogs managed to get the ball carrier down with some fine defensive play.
The match went in to overtime, and again Short cut won the toss against a team of Shiny's, so they chose to receive and this drive was very straightforward, and a comfortable score for the win.
Very well played by Shiny, as always, with an inferior team. This time there were no perms to speak of, other than a dead rookie (that may also be the same that scored, as he got the MVP?).
